Court Exterior Restoration Project
The necessary repairs to the exterior of the Court, caused by moisture that seeped in behind the stucco and walls, have now been completed. The list of repairs and improvements were extensive and included:
- All exterior stucco replaced with durable hardy board siding
- All water damaged wood was replaced to ensure both safety and strength
- The insulation was replaced with a double layer of spray foam insulation
- Windows were replaced with upgraded triple-pane windows
- All suite interior repairs from prior water damage
- New balconies, glass railings and air-conditioning in each suite
Originally we had expected the cost would not exceed $1.5Million. However, with the excessive hidden damage to the wall interiors along with some upgrades, the final cost of the Project was $1,975,000. In seeing the final results, we are satisfied the Society has received good value for the money spent.
As of July 2020, we have raised $185,000 of our first goal of $500,000.
The Board and Management of Shalem would like to thank the following people:
- Our architect, Rick Balbi and his team.
- Daniel Louden and his team at YGC, the main contractor.
- Our in-house Project Committee, which met weekly to guide us through the Project from beginning to end, with valuable advice and help from Edwin Kamphuis and Glenn Minnesma.
