Message from the Executive Director

Hello!

What unprecedented times we find ourselves in!

As we entered into the year 2020, none of us could have imagined or anticipated that we would now be living in the middle of a pandemic, where our normal habits, lifestyles, and access to friends and family would be restricted.  Perhaps now, more than ever, Shalem's vision of enhancing the well-being of seniors is essential.

The name Shalem comes from a Hebrew word meaning 'to be or make whole or complete'.   It is this vision of wholeness that Shalem seeks to be.  Wholeness in being.  Wholeness in health.  Wholeness in relationship to God.  Seeking that wholeness together is what being a community of all about.

At Shalem, we believe in celebrating and affirming those who have contributed, and continue to contribute, so greatly to our society.  We are committed to ensuring Shalem is a place where seniors experience a quality of life that will provide comfort and peace through the various challenges of aging.

Whether you live at Shalem, are currently looking for a senior residence for yourself or a parent, or have the same passion as we do to see seniors celebrated and affirmed, we need you!  As restrictions ease, we will once again have many opportunities for volunteers to connect with our residents, as well your financial support will allow us to grow and enhance our programs and services to ensure seniors are provided with the support they need as they age.

Over the last months, I have been reminded of the verse in Romans 15:13:  "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope."

As we work together to create a community of wholeness - even in the midst of this pandemic - let's draw on that promise and that hope.
